#SmallPitch was created in February 2024 by Millie Abecassis as a response to the lack of pitch events dedicated to independent presses. The first even took place in July 2024 and attracted hundreds of authors and 20+ independent presses from various countries and publishing a large variety of genres, leading to multiple book deals that you can find in our Success Stories page.
Meet the team
#SmallPitch was founded by Millie Abecassis, a French-American author of science fiction, fantasy, and horror who has multiple books with independent publishers. She lives in San Jose, California.
In her day job, Millie works as a community engagement manager in the life sciences industry, and leverages her outreach skills to make #SmallPitch a success.
Florence Chien joined the #SmallPitch team in September 2024 and helps run the event. She designed our pitching platform and ensures it runs smoothly during each event.
Florence is a Chinese-Canadian author of fantasy and historical fiction. Outside of writing, she is also a real estate lawyer, a connoisseur of coffee, and a fountain pen aficionado. Her debut novel, The Revenant of Surolifia, is a political intrigue fantasy forthcoming in 2026.
Morgan Wodring joined the #SmallPitch team in September 2024 and helps run the event. They manage our Discord community and crunch numbers after each event.
Morgan is a scientist, artist, and writer of science fiction, fantasy, and horror from the UK. They are the author of Cyanosis, a novel currently on submission, and are working on their next novel.
