Lindsey Anderle is a writer of fantasy, often weaving the magical with reality and adding a touch of the macabre. You can often find her surrounded by books, thinking of new stories and wondering how to make them darker and weirder. She lives in Texas with her husband and daughter, working as a school nutrition employee.
Can you please tell us more about your book?
Here is a short blurb about my book:
Twenty-year-old Leeta and her twin brother, Darren, have only known life as the star attractions of McCaulley’s Circus sideshow act, having been sold to the ringmaster as young children by their own mother. Every day without fail they are put on display to showcase their abilities: Leeta has visions of the dead and relives their untimely deaths, while Darren can speak to their spirits; giving their loved ones closure and frightening the ones who do not believe. Not all is horrible, though, as they connect with others who were also caught in McCaulley’s web, forming their own small family within the confines of their abnormal life.
Then Leeta finds out someone in the city is capturing, torturing, and murdering people who have special abilities, but for what, she’s not certain. Having gotten her chance at a real family again, she can’t let anything happen to them. Her brother, her friends, even the ones who keep her at arm’s length. Leeta has enough to deal with juggling her troublesome circus life and her budding feelings for a newcomer to the city, who keeps her on her toes and her heart fluttering in her chest. But now she needs to find out who is hunting down those she holds dear before they are next. She must do whatever she can to protect her family. As the murderer starts hitting closer to home, Leeta will discover the darkest parts of herself as she sees how far she’ll go to protect those she loves.
How long had you been querying/submitting it?
I have been querying this book for about a year, submitting in small groups at a time.
Had you considered submitting your manuscript to a small/indie press before the #SmallPitch event?
I haven’t thought about submitting to small presses before pitching for this event, only because I wasn’t quite sure how they worked. But I’m glad I did!
How has your experience been with your publisher so far? (from the #SmallPitch like to today)
The experience has been great! Conquest Publishing has been amazing and has answered all the questions I’ve thought about. Brittany responds in a timely manner and keeps me in the loop.
What advice do you have for querying authors?
My advice would be to not be afraid of putting yourself out there, whether that be for pitch events like #SmallPitch or trying to query small presses. No matter how you want to publish, you’ll get there!
