Welcome to the third article showcasing the participating editors and presses of my new indie-press centered pitch event, #SmallPitch. (If you are hearing about #SmallPitch for the first time, you can find information about the event here.)
I asked a few questions to Dakota Rayne from Inked in Gray, an independent press with an amazing name and logo (don’t you think?).

Can you introduce your press?
Inked in Gray is a small press with a mission to give a voice to previously-excluded authors and creators and highlight works that expose the depths of our humanity and its imperfections.
We were founded in 2020 by Dakota Rayne and Carlin Thomas and have grown to a small staff of four passionate individuals.
We are on the look out for YA and Adult books in the contemporary and speculative fiction genres (Romance is okay as long as it’s not the main plot).
What will you be on the lookout for during #SmallPitch?
During #SmallPitch we will be looking for YA and Adult books in the contemporary and speculative fiction genres, and especially those written by marginalized authors and those with themes that tackle mental health and moral grayness.
If we like a pitch and invite an author to submit, our submission guidelines are available here.
What’s the benefit for authors to work with an independent press like yours?
We at Inked are very collaborative in our publication process. We work with you the entire way to make sure the final product aligns with your vision of the final product.
